Community Health Plan of Washington Awards $250,000 in Unrestricted Grants to Support Underserved Communities in Washington State
The 25 community-based organizations receiving grants deliver essential services, from food and housing to maternal health care and more.
SEATTLE – October 2, 2025 – Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW), the not-for-profit health plan offering Apple Health (Medicaid), Medicare Advantage, and Individual & Family Plans on the health exchange, announced today the 2025 recipients of its $250,000 Community Investment Fund, which will be distributed among 25 community-based organizations (CBOs) supporting underserved communities in Washington state. The unrestricted grants support CBOs addressing significant health disparities and providing essential services such as housing, food, employment, and education.
“Community-based organizations continue to play a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of families and communities across Washington state,” said Leanne Berge, CEO of Community Health Plan of Washington and its parent organization, Community Health Network of Washington. “We deeply value our partnerships with these dedicated groups, whose work is essential to improving the health of underserved communities. These grants are designed to strengthen the efforts of our community partners, ensuring they can continue delivering critical services. These organizations remain pillars of their communities, demonstrating resilience and a deep commitment to helping Washingtonians achieve their best health.”
As CBOs face growing demand, limited resources, and increasingly complex challenges, unrestricted funding has never been more critical. The Community Investment Fund grants provide essential support to the frontline organizations that residents depend on every day—helping them stay strong, responsive, and deeply rooted in the communities they serve.
With this year’s grants, CHPW has now invested $1.49 million in nearly 100 CBOs across Washington state since 2020, strengthening local efforts to improve health outcomes and provide support for those who need it most.
Among the organizations receiving funding is Northwest Harvest, which addresses food insecurity and promotes access to healthy food throughout Washington.
“Support from CHPW’s Community Investment Fund helps provide nutritious food to communities across Washington. This partnership shows our shared commitment to improving lives and expanding access to resources, and together with community organizations, we’re making a lasting impact for those who need it most,” said Justin Vierela, Director of Community Philanthropy for Northwest Harvest.
