Community Health Plan of Washington
Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW) is a not-for-profit health plan offering publicly-funded Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans, as well as the Health Benefit Exchange’s public option Individual & Family Plans (Cascade Select).
Founded and headquartered in Washington, CHPW only serves Washingtonians and is a vital part of the health care safety net for low-income and historically underserved communities.
We are leaders in whole–person care, with a long-standing commitment to integrated care that addresses physical health, behavioral health, and social drivers of health such as access to food, housing, transportation and other environmental factors.
We are unique in Washington because the Community Health Centers, who serve as the foundation of the plan’s care delivery network, also govern CHPW as our Board of Directors.
This relationship provides a deep connection to the communities we serve, as does the fact that nearly all our staff live and work in Washington. So, our staff know first-hand the community resources our members may need.
As a not-for-profit, CHPW sends 100% of our profits back to the Community Health Centers to use in serving all their patients –regardless of whether those patients have CHPW as their insurance provider or not.
We also provide $250,000 each year to 25 community-based organizations in the form of grants, which they can use for anything they need to best serve their clients.
Community Health Network of Washington
Community Health Network of Washington is an affiliation of 21 Community Health Centers across the state, who, together operate close to 200 clinics and provide care to over one million patients in communities across Washington.
We are the parent organization to Community Health Plan of Washington, and our providers are the core of the plan’s care delivery network.
As an organization of clinics certified as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), CHNW serves populations historically lacking in accessible health care services.
As designated FQHCs, the CHCs who comprise CHNW are able to access federal and state grants, as well as other funds and reimbursement under federal criteria that include:
- Being located in an underserved community
- Seeing patients regardless of their ability to pay
- Offering a sliding-scale for services based on income and family size
- Having community members make up the majority of their Board of Directors
- Meeting specified clinical standards and having an ongoing quality assurance program
More than 30 years ago this group of Washington Community Health Centers united as a collective voice for our shared value of access to quality health care for their communities. CHNW and CHPW have been making a positive impact in the lives of Washingtonians ever since.
By leveraging our collective resources and expertise, together we have been able to undertake strategic public policy and advocacy efforts in both Olympia, WA, and Washington, D.C., for every Washington State resident.
Our track record of community organizing and effective care management has made us a leader in Washington State’s health care sector.
As members of Washington State’s vibrant communities, we understand the challenges our fellow Washingtonians face when attempting to access and finance care while leading busy lives.
That’s why we focus on affordable, accessible community care.
